Maintaining F-1 Status
forMNU International Students
To maintain your F-1 Student Status and thus be eligible for F-I privileges, International Students admitted to MidAmerica Nazarene University must:
1. Keep your original I-20-ID (STUDENT) in a safe place where it can be quickly and easily retrieved.
2. Attend the school authorized on your current I-20 form. If courses are allowed to be taken at other schools in the area, you must have your academic advisor's approval for such courses, in writing, and on file in the International Student Office of MNU.
3. MAINTAIN a full course of study each fall and spring semester until your degree is completed. To fall below 12 semester hours in any semester places you out of student status.
4. Apply for an extension if you must remain past your I-20 degree completion date in order to finish your work. (Note: applying for an extension does not necessarily mean you will receive an extension).
5. Limit on-campus employment to 20 hours per week except during summer and winter vacation periods.
6. Do not accept any off-campus work without INS authorization. Possession of a social security card does not give you permission to work off-campus. Under exceptional circumstances, permits for off-campus employment may be applied for but are nearly impossible to obtain.
7. Immediately notify the International Student Advisor of any change in residence, phone number, or other relevant details required by INS.
8. Follow INS transfer procedures if you choose to attend a college/university
other
than MNU.
9. Have a valid passport good for at least six months after your intended
graduation date.
10. If you plan to leave the United States during summer vacations or holidays
in a
regular school year, make arrangements with the International Student Advisor,
at least a week before you leave, for your I-20 to be signed, for permission
to reenter the United States when you return. Even though signatures are usually
valid for 12 months, it is recommended that travel take place within 6 months
of the ISA signature date.
