In the 8th inning of Game 2 of the 2008 ALCS, Tampa Bay switch hitter Ben Zobrist was called on to pinch hit against the Boston Red Sox.

In the very next inning, right hander Justin Masterson was brought out of the Red Sox bullpen to face the Rays.

Kevin Steele, Director of Athletics at California Baptist University, will become MidAmerica Nazarene University's seventh Director of Athletics August 1. Jason Drummond, Vice President for University Advancement, announced the hiring Monday. Steele will succeed Ron Hill, who retires June 30 after serving in that role for 12 years.

The MidAmerica Nazarene University baseball program is excited to announce the signing of Ben Alison, a righthanded pitcher/infielder from Ankeny High School in Ankeny, Iowa, for the fall of 2008. Alison helped lead Ankeny High to a quarterfinal finish in baseball last summer as a junior and to the state championship game last fall in football.

Catcher Nick Beghtol and outfielder Jake Gill were honored with HAAC All Conference selections this week. Beghtol, a senior from Loveland, CO, received 1st-team honors as he hit .393 with 9 homers, 12 doubles, and 36 RBI in 37 games. His on base percentage was .455 and he slugged .741. Beghtol was also named to the All Region V Team.
