MNU women's soccer team traveled to Fayette, Missouri on Saturday to face off with HAAC conference opponent Central Methodist University. MNU started off strong creating many good opportunities on goal. "The girls really played well tonight," said coach Orton. "We changed a few key pieces of the puzzle and it really worked." The game was tied going into half time, with MNU pressing for that first goal. MNU continued to press in the second half but hit a bump when MNU was issued a Red Card with 39 minutes left in the game. "Red cards can really change the game," said Orton. "But the team really stepped up and we had to move some players around to different positions, and all of those players played outstanding. I could not have asked for a better performance." Luckily CMU was also issued a red card on the play.
For the next 39 minutes it was a true battle. Each team had good chances to score. MNU was building but could not finish in regulation. 3 minutes into overtime, MNU was issued a free kick around 30 yards outside the goal box. Alyssa Howard sent in a wonderful cross. CMU's keeper misjudged the cross and Rebecca McAndrew tapped in the ball for the game winner. This puts MNU at 1-1-1 in conference and 3-3-4 overall.
MNU's next game is Tuesday, October 7th at home vs Dana College at 4pm October 7th.
