The MNU Men's Soccer team picked up an important conference win Saturday over Missouri Valley. The final score was 2-1 and MNU now sits at 3-1 in the conference and 8-4 overall. MNU got on the board early with a beautiful goal by Alec Lemmon, assisted by Lucas Rodriguez and David Gonzalez in just the 6th minute of the game. The game then turned for MO Valley as they controlled a large portion of the remaining half with possession, and in the process, created some scoring chances that they finally capitalized on in the 35th minute when they scored off of a cross. The game remained tied 1-1 at the half. MNU came out in the second half and completely controlled the play. Shots in the 2nd half were 13-2 in favor of MNU and corner kicks were 6-0, but they could not capitalize on their opportunities. Finally, in the 85th minute, Missouri Valley was called for a hand ball in the box and Jon Lemmon stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty kick. Missouri Valley falls to 5-6 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.
For the game MNU out-shot MO Valley 21-10; with SOG being 8-5. Corner kicks were 8-2 in MNU's favor. MVC's Keepers combined for 6 saves. Ryan Clemens had 4 saves for MNU in picking up the win.
MNU's next game is on Monday as they face NCAA Div III opponent Greenville College. Game time is slated for 3pm.
