Spiritual Life
Chaplain Randy Beckum and his spiritual life team at MNU have a desire to see miraculous things occur in the lives of students, faculty, staff and administrators. They know they exist because of Christ and to serve the campus' constituents. Their deepest desire is to see students, in their four year at MNU, come to know Christ the Lord in a deep, abiding way. In all that they do and all the decisions they make, Beckum and his team make promoting a relationship with the Father their first concern.
This begins, Beckum said, with making sure every student is presented with the Gospel and an opportunity to become a Christian. Once that relationship is established, Beckum said most students approach their Christian walk through one of three perspectives: rationalism ("His voice heard"), activism ("His power unleashed") or escapism ("His will discovered"). Each area encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, moral and social aspects of the Christian (see model below). The key, Beckum believes, is finding a balance of all three.

"We see spiritual development as a process of helping students center themselves within His word, His will and His power," Beckum said, "out of which they can reach out to the world from a Christ-centered, spiritually balanced core."
The major components of spiritual development at MidAmerica - chapel, ministry opportunities, discipleship groups, religion courses, prayer and communion times, retreats and small groups - all work together to promote the develop of spiritually balanced students.
A Vision for Christ-like Servanthood
The vision of the Office of Spiritual Life is to create a climate at
MidAmerica Nazarene University in which God's voice is heard, His will
is discovered, and His mission embraced. We wish to challenge members
of this community to a lifetime of passionate servanthood to Christ and others.
...And what better place to start than now and here in this community...
