Welcome Pioneers – Class of 2012

New Student Orientation (NSO) start with moving in on August 16th at 8:00am! NSO is a five-day experience designed to help students and parents become acclimated to the MNU Experience! The week is set up to introduce students to all that MNU has to offer you over the next four years. NSO activities will help you make the most of your MNU experience, academically, spiritually and socially. Dive in and meet your new friends and professors, ask questions, collect information, and explore all your options. Welcome to the MNU community!

Saturday, August 16

  • 8:00am Move In Day
    • Check into your hall, greet your roommate, residence hall staff, and start making yourself at home!
  • Lunch - 11:00 - 1:00 Campus Center
  • 4:00 Welcome Session, Bell Arena Cooks Center
    • Welcome Pioneers - Class of 2012. Your MNU experience officially starts now. Come meet your Freshmen Mentor group and begin the journey of becoming a Pioneer!
  • 4:30 - Focus: Your Freshmen Mentor Group
  • 6:30 Picnic on the Lawn
  • 7:30 The Pioneer Tradition…Bell Cultural Events Center
  • 8:00pm - Sowing Prayer - Harvest Prayer Statue, Campus Green
    • This MNU tradition comes full circle when you walk across the stage four years from now…may you reap what you sow!

Sunday, August 17th

  • 8:15 - 9:15 - Continental Breakfast - Campus Center
  • 10:00am Family Worship Service & Communion -Bell Cultural Events Center
  • 11:30 Family Lunch - Campus Center
  • 1:00 - 3:00 "Open House"
    • All new students and parents are welcome to visit Freshmen residence halls.
  • 3:00 Free Time: Finish moving in, Last Minute errands, grab a nap, and say goodbye to Mom and Dad.
  • 4:00 - "Becoming a Pioneer" Bell Arena, Sponsored by ASG
  • 5:30 - Dinner - Luau - Land Gymnasium
  • 7:00pm "The MNU Community: The Big Picture"
    • Dr. Ed Speaks, Bell Center
  • 9:00 pm - "The Big Picture in Residential Life" - Residence Halls
    • Meet your fellow residents, develop new friendships, and join your student leaders as they share some strategies for making the most of your MNU residence hall experience!
  • 9:00pm - Commuter Gathering
  • 10:00 BINGO - Draper Basement
    • Come explore the competitive side of the Pioneers and win prizes!

Monday, August 18th

  • 7:30 - 8:45 Breakfast - Campus Center
  • 9:00am Pioneer Pathways
    • a series of orientation sessions to set your paths straight for success at MNU.
    • Prof Talk- Curious about what the classroom experience is like? At this orientation session, we'll offer you faculty perspectives on what to expect from the academic side of MNU. What will be required of you, and what we hope will happen for you and to you through the academic side of your life at MidAmerica. This session will offer you tips for academic success!
    • Smart Start: Plug in quickly with our Wellness Center and make the most of your MNU experience.
    • Career Trek: the 4 year plan to successfully finding your vocation and calling
    • Students for Students: get the inside scoop on getting connected, knowing your resources, and student associations, activities, clubs, ministry groups, etc. on campus
  • 12:15 - 1:30 Lunch
  • 1:45 -MNU Interactive Resource Fair - Land Gymnasium
  • 5:00 - 6:30 - Dinner - Mexican Fiesta - Campus Center Sponsored by the Cultural Diversity Committee
  • 8:00 - 10:00pm White Tent Event, Campus Green, Sponsored by ASG
    • Celebrate the beginning of your collegiate career with class. Come mingle and enjoy dessert and music!

Tuesday, August 19th

  • 7:30 - 8:15 Breakfast, Campus Center
  • 8:30 Learning to Serve - Bell
  • 9:00 load busses
  • 9:30 - 11:30 Service Project
  • 11:30 - 1:30 Lunch Campus Center
  • 2:30 - 3:00 - Backyard Olympics
  • 3:00 - 5:00 Free Time/Athletic practices
  • 6:00pm Dinner - Campus Center
  • 7:00 -Sand Volleyball Tournament, Sand Volleyball Courts

Wednesday, August 20th

  • 7:30 Breakfast, Campus Center
  • 9:00am -. 11:00am
    • "Are You Aware" Sponsored by the Olathe Fire Department
  • 11:30 - 1:00 Lunch
  • 1:30 - "To Be Healthy, Whole & Safe"
    • Here you will hear from Campus Safety and Olathe community members who will help you become a healthy Pioneer
  • 3:00 - 5:00 Free Time/ Athletic Practices
  • 5:00 - 6:00 Pioneer Tailgate & Blue & White Game, Cook Center South Parking Lot
    • Grab a burger and come ready to show your MNU spirit
  • 9:00pm Thanks for the Memories - Bell Cultural Events Center
    • One last gathering before classes begin tomorrow. Come gather for dessert and say good-bye to NSO as we say "Thanks for the Memories"
