Leadership Option
LEAD 7003 Formation of a Leader
This course surveys leadership theory and emphasizes practical skills and strategic formation needed to develop balanced and effective leadership.
LEAD 7103 Organizational Leadership
This course focuses on the concept of leadership in organizations. The complexity of the structural, political, symbolic and human resource issues in applying a framework for analyzing leadership in organizations is studied.
LEAD 7203 Ethical Leadership
This course examines the personal and ethical underpinnings of leadership, with special attention on issues of values, faith, and spirit. Activities include discussion of readings and cases, and personal exploration.
LEAD 7303 Change Management
Examines the mechanisms the organization uses to respond to and initiate changes in its internal and external environments. Processes include organizational development, intervention theory and research, organizational effectiveness, proactive change strategies, and the role of the change agent.
Non-Profit Administration Option
NPAD 7003 Non-Profit Management and Volunteerism
This course extends to basic principles of management to include the non-profit organization. Consideration of such topics as definition of goals, developing measures of effectiveness, benefit-cost analysis, and the analysis of the political environment. Special attention is paid to the role of volunteerism in the non-profit organization. Topics in volunteerism include recruitment, motivation, evaluation and recognition.
NPAD 7103 Strategic Management for the Non-Profit
This course emphasizes management of strategic planning outcomes and investigates governance functions, roles, and responsibilities of non-profit boards of directors in relation to those of non-profit chief executive, staff, members, financial supporters, and the public at large. Topics include board composition, policymaking, oversight, training, recruitment, and retention.
NPAD 7203 Grant Writing
This course focuses on fundamental aspects of grant writing including searching for funding, writing a proposal narrative, generating an effective budget, review of proposals, and managing an awarded grant. Students will learn how to develop and market fundable project ideas, think about what funding agencies and reviewers are looking for, and how to write a fundable proposal.
NPAD 7303 Revenue Development for Non-Profits
This course surveys the principles and practices of marketing, public relations, fundraising, and long-term development planning for non-profit organizations. Topics include obtaining financial support from foundations, corporations, and individuals. Students are also introduced to annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.
Finance Option
ACCT 6103 Financial Management
This course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth analysis of equity and debt markets from the point of view of both the investor and the business firm. Topics include: asset pricing models, the risk-return tradeoff, determinates of interest rates, capital structure theory, and risk consideration in capital budgeting, distribution policy, leasing, mergers, and acquisitions. A major part of this course is the use of real business cases to illustrate the application of financial management tools.
FINC 7103 Financial Derivatives
This course introduces the basic principles of financial risk management. Assignments focus on techniques used to manage financial risks in the corporate environment such as using futures, options, and swaps to hedge. Valuation issues will be explored to identify theoretical pricing fundamentals that can be applied toward valuing newly developed securities.
FINC 7203 Investments
This course is designed to provide the student with an introduction to investment as practiced in a market economy. It is a survey course that will allow the student to gain an understanding of the major concepts, terminology, and theory applicable to investment management. Topics specifically analyzed include the determinants of investors. decisions given the goal of maximizing the rate of return in the long run.
FINC 7303 Portfolio Theory
This course provides a study of the concept of diversification of a financial portfolio. It combines theory and practical application of valuation procedures including cash flow, growth models, market capitalization techniques, and long term value maximization strategies. Each student will manage a .virtual. portfolio so that the tools and theory learned in the course can be applied to the real world of the professional investor
International Marketing and Business Option
INMB 7003 Global Business
The environment of international business is the focus of this course. Emphasis is placed on the historical development, cultural, economic, legal and political framework of the international business environment. Additional topics include foreign exchange, trade finance, multilateral agreements, and the influence of government on trade.
INMB 7103 International Marketing
This course is designed to provide a set of conceptual and managerial tools which will illustrate marketing on a international scale. The topics covered include economic and financial dimensions of international markets, social and cultural aspects of international markets, regional market characteristics, and political and legal issues in international marketing. Competitive analysis and competitive strategy for entering international markets is also covered.
INMB 7203 International Economics and Finance
This course focuses on the theory of international trade and trade policy and their counterparts in the financial markets including exchange rates, capital flows, and balance of payments. Topics include options markets in foreign currency, international risk management, purchasing power parity, interest rate parity and contemporary issues in international financial management.
INMB 7303 International Seminar
Students will travel outside the United States to observe the environment and conduct of business in other countries. Instruction will be provided by business leaders, government officials, and university faculty. This two-week trip will be preceded by independent study related to the countries visited.
