Résumé Tips
The purpose of the résumé is to provide the employer with a short, concise overview of your qualifications. Use as few words as possible. You need to catch the employer's attention in about 15 to 20 seconds - so, less is more. Unless you have many years of experience, keep it to one page. Begin with your recent experiences and work backward.
Some of the categories you may utilize for your resume would include:
Header (Name, Address, Phone, Email)
Objective (short-term, long-term goals or name the position with the company)
Education
Honors/Awards
Experience (could be both work experience and related experience)
Internships/ Practicums/ Student Teaching
Skills
Activities
Volunteer work
Professional Associations
Summary of Qualifications
Be sure to give the name of the organization, position held, location and dates for each experience you list. Describe the responsibilities by using action verbs i.e. analyze, design, develop, compute, greet, etc.
